In with the Blogging and out with the readers journal

The article Reader Responsiveness 2.0 talked about how a classroom’s approach on reading changed completely when the class was introduced to Blogging. In most reading classroom’s students have journals which they write about what they have read or are currently reading. Teachers were finding it was not a great way for students to express their thoughts on books.

When blogging was introduced, students immediately became engaged and excited about this new approach. Teachers noticed once blogging was put into place students were interacting and were more intune with the world of reading. Also the quietest students now had a voice and was being heard.

I believe this is a great way to keep students involved. My students are low functioning so I do not feel this would be a good teaching techneque for them, however I could see thiws being used starting in the 2nd or third grade classroom when reading skills of students are developing and they are reading chapter books on their own. I hope to see this trend keep growing and more teacher jump on to this band wagon.
